Amir Khan likened to Floyd Mayweather

Amir Khan will take on Billy Dib in Jeddah’s King Abdullah Sports City Stadium and his new cornerman has heaped praise on the Brit.

Clarence ‘Bones’ Adams, Amir Khan’s new cornerman, claims he trains as hard as Floyd Mayweather Junior.

Adams joined Khan for Friday’s bout with Billy Dib in Jeddah’s King Abdullah Sports City Stadium and says Khan has the same work ethic as the legendary Mayweather.

Adams, who based in Las Vegas near Mayweather said Khan trains with the hunger of a penniless prospect.

“Amir has the ability and he wants to work,” said the former WBA super-bantamweight champion. “Once I lost that will to work I retired. Amir puts in the effort of a broke 26-year-old and that’s all you can ask for as a trainer.”

“It’s very rare to have that amount of money and still be hungry, I take my hat off to him. He’s like Floyd Mayweather in that respect and people don’t realise how hard Floyd still trains despite being so wealthy.”

“Floyd still does five-hour sessions, getting through two or three shirts, people don’t realise how hard he works. The more money he gets, the harder he works. Apart from before the Conor McGregor fight! And I see that in Amir.”

The 45-year-old Adams has worked with top boxers like Nonito Donaire and Jorge Linares in his Vegas gym and would love to have Khan around for his mooted November 9 showdown with Manny Pacquiao.

Khan reveals he will probably split from Virgil Hunter following seven years together for the last few fights of his career and Bones claims he could help him win a third world title.

The last time the former WBA and light-welterweight king held a world title was in 2012 and Bones insists he is not finished.

“He wants to learn and, of course, it takes a whole lot of time for all that to work,” said Bones.
“We have plans for after this fight to get back in the gym, work on good habits and get rid of bad habits. It would be awesome to be in his corner for the Pacquiao fight, a great honour.”

“I wish I had got Amir years ago, but he’s only 32 and I see his drive in the gym. He’s working harder than ever. If I can add some more boxing knowledge and theory then he can add a good few years to his career.”

“He’s not done yet, he could win another world title, and with all the things he has achieved that would just be a bonus.”
